It’s almost Spring, RIGHT?!?!?  Ah, well, a bit more time to wait, then let’s create our OWN sunshine for the month of March:  Suminigashi aka Japanese Paper Marbling is a world of swirling, colorful joy that is bound to bring a smile to your face!

The ancient art of Japanese Paper Marbling.  You’ve seen it in art form, on book ends, and on clothing. Come learn the seemingly magic art of paper marbling and the various designs that can be created in this super fun and addictive craft.

You’ll learn a variety of techniques and use a number of tools to create these beautiful marbled arts on both paper and fabric.  Unique  materials provided to explore your creativity - vintage book pages, ephemera, vintage paper, feathers, silk.

Join artist and teacher Molly Meng as we use Japanese marbling inks and various papers to create our own unique, swirling beauties that take just a short time to dry and can be used for a multitude of creative projects going forward.

Participants will leave with their own unique stack of marbled papers.

All materials provided for this workshop. Casual clothes recommended. You may want to bring an apron and your glasses, too!

Space is very limited!

ABOUT MOLLY C. MENG

WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM

Molly C. Meng studied literature with a personal minor in collecting other people's lives.  An obsession with old ledgers, vintage photos. and every single discarded book that exists, her work reimagines the untold stories behind the otherwise forgotten items of every day.

A self-taught artist, the medium of collage in both paper and textiles is Molly's dominant form of communicating.  She successfully weaves the elements of ephemera and storytelling into each piece she creates.

The spectacular beauty of the ordinary is elevated with detail in her work.  Molly's work has shown nationally in both museums and galleries located in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Wisconsin and Montana.  She has produced large scale commissions for interior designers, personal homes and a number of Prometheus apartment complexes in Northern California.

Other than creating her own artwork, Molly helps adults and young people lean into their unique talent by teaching creative workshops around the U.S. as well as on an annual retreat in the South of France.  Molly C. Meng is currently living and working in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
