February is known for Valentines day- but that’s just one day- what if we spent any random day appreciating our loved ones?  Do you know what makes something really special for someone?  Making it personal.  This blockprinting workshop, where you'll hand carve your own stamp, maybe your favorite image, to use over and over, is a sure sign of personalization!  Join the workshop to learn the ancient craft of block printing, stay because you’re about to make the most special gift ever…

Block Printing is one of the oldest types of printmaking, and has been around for thousands of years.

Join artist & teacher Molly Meng where you will learn to design and carve your very own "block" for printing on fabric and paper.  We’ll learn about transferring images, designing your own, building repeat patterns.   You'll have a full introduction to the various supplies and tools that can be used in this exciting process and bring home your uniquely designed block to use over and over.

You'll have a full introduction to the different kinds of supplies and tools that can be used in this exciting process. Each student will leave with plenty of information to continue this craft and their own hand-carved block to use over and over, as well as their own unique prints by the end of the workshop.

I’ll have plenty of images to choose from, but what makes this extra fun is the personal image you bring to the workshop:

Maybe you’d like to carve an image of your favorite pet, past or present, or your favorite human or an image from a moment in time, maybe your childhood home - bring a contrasted black and white photo copy of an image that will fit inside a 4”x6” block (it can be as smaller than that or go beyond the boundaries).  I’ll check in with you before the workshop, to make sure the image you want to use can work…

No previous experience necessary. All materials provided --You may want to bring an apron and your glasses!

ABOUT MOLLY C. MENG

WEBSITE | FACEBOOK | INSTAGRAM

Molly C. Meng studied literature with a personal minor in collecting other people's lives.  An obsession with old ledgers, vintage photos. and every single discarded book that exists, her work reimagines the untold stories behind the otherwise forgotten items of every day.

A self-taught artist, the medium of collage in both paper and textiles is Molly's dominant form of communicating.  She successfully weaves the elements of ephemera and storytelling into each piece she creates.

The spectacular beauty of the ordinary is elevated with detail in her work.  Molly's work has shown nationally in both museums and galleries located in New York, San Francisco, Los Angeles, Wisconsin and Montana.  She has produced large scale commissions for interior designers, personal homes and a number of Prometheus apartment complexes in Northern California.

Other than creating her own artwork, Molly helps adults and young people lean into their unique talent by teaching creative workshops around the U.S. as well as on an annual retreat in the South of France.  Molly C. Meng is currently living and working in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.
