Jon Langford has been a constant fixture on the fringes of the music industry and art world for the last three decades, irons in the fire, plates in the air, occasionally, accidentally in tune with current fads and phases but happier charting his own contrary course through the choppy waters of popular culture. The Welsh born artist and musician, who relocated to Chicago in 1992, has a degree in fine art from the University of Leeds where (in great British art school tradition) he downed brushes to co-found that seminal punk rock band, The Mekons in 1977. Jon currently performs with Chicago Hard Country legends the Waco Brothers and has many and varied solo projects.
Known for his merging of country music themes with striking visuals Langford has produced album covers for artists as diverse as Dave Alvin & Jimmie Dale Gilmore, Buddy Guy, Hound Dog Taylor and Trio featuring Dolly Parton, Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt. In 2015 Langford was Artist in Residence at the Country Music Hall of Fame in Nashville and worked on visuals for the acclaimed DYLAN, CASH and the NASHVILLE CATS exhibit. During this period he began working with Hatch Show-print master printer Jim Sherraden and under their aliases Bishop Biscuit and Father Drogo in recent years they have produced a series of collaborative works for their touring COMPLICATED CHARACTERS Art show.
